Kitty Hawk:

Kitty Hawk beaches seem to be more relaxed than others in Outer Banks. Outside of the Friday before Memorial Day to after Labor Day (peak season) dogs may allowed to be off-leash and within 30 feet of their owners. We highly recommend always checking the town’s laws for updated and read posted signs around the perimeter of the beach. Overall, Kitty Hawk is one of the more pet-friendly beach towns in OBX.

The beaches of Manteo are welcoming to dogs, but are a bit more restrictive when it comes to leashes. You must have your dog on a 6ft or less leash and clearly be able to handle the animal.

Pack the Necessities:

If you are taking your pet with you to Outer Banks, make sure to bring things they will need. Bring food and water bowls, toys, treats, and anything else that will make them feel comfortable. For safety bring 6ft and 10ft leashes incase you visit a beach with such restriction (like the ones mentioned above). We also recommend you bring a vaccination card with you and please make sure your dog has a collar – it happens to often where people lose their furry friend while on vacation, only never to be seen again (just reality, so please collar-up).

Make a List:

We recommend making a list (like everything mentioned above in this article) of things to do. Having a gameplan like this will make your vacation easier, more predictable, and manageable with your furry friend.
